Oct 12: Todd Burge (WV) with special guest Bruce Hoffman (Pittsburgh)

Posted on 05 October 2018 (0)

West Virginia loans us Todd Burge! Over the years, Todd has become a good friend and kind soul who loves to come here and play.  He has dedicated his life to song writing and music promotion. Todd’s songs are honest, sometimes abstract, poignant, and often funny. His guitar playing and harmonica accompaniment are superb. www.toddburge.com

Pittsburgh’s Bruce Hoffman will open for Todd. Bruce is well known in the area for his craftily written songs that either make you think or laugh or do both. He is the songwriter that John Prine comes to town to see.

June 9: Rachel Brown

Posted on 09 June 2018 (0)

In collaboration with The Harmony Inn, we’re hosting the talented Rachel Brown, playing solo on the Inn patio (inside in case of rain) from 1pm-4pm June 9.  Rachel’s a professional musician and music educator who also plays with her band the Beatnik Playboys. Concert today is sponsored by the Bottlebrush Gallery and The Harmony Inn, but FREE to you.

About Rachel Brown:

Rachel Brown and the Beatnik Playboys are a delicious musical anachronism – Americana music of today that seems like it could have come from a time when milk came in glass bottles and doctors still made house calls. Powered by singer-songwriter Brown’s multi-octave voice, fed by guitarist Dave Huddleston’s tasty licks and harmonies, decorated by the smooth grooves of string bassist Bill Watson and drummer Roy King, the band journeys through the musical landscape of country, jazz, blues and gospel on a trip you want to take over and over.

June 1: House Concert, Reverend Robert & Charlie Barath

Posted on 24 May 2018 (0)

Reverend Robert is a master of prewar blues. He has delved deep into the styles of Charley Patton, Robert Johnson and other delta blues giants. In the past two decades he has become accomplished at many other early twentieth century styles including ragtime and early jazz, Hawaiian, African and Caribbean. He combines these styles seamlessly in a combination of infectious rhythm and an authentic acoustic sound. http://www.revrobert.com/

Charlie Barath is enamored with traditional styles the Pittsburgh-based harmonica player and singer directs most of his efforts toward performing Blues, Americana, Folk, Cajun; mostly anything that is traditional music. He started his musical journey when he purchased his first Marine Band harmonica in the late 70s and began playing in the traditional Straight Harp style in which the diatonic harmonica was designed to be played. As time progressed, Charlie discovered more paths to travel with his instrument and continues to explore these options today.

May 11: House Concert, Malcolm Holcombe

Posted on 17 April 2018 (0)

“Haunted country, acoustic blues and rugged folk all meet [here]…” —Rolling Stone

Holcombe has a knack for exploring the depths of the working-class life, good and bad. He is a storyteller, and his songs have history. “Papermill Man” in particular captures the gritty banalities of mill work in a vivid, descriptive way: “Smoke blowing up in the air/One room shack/One room school…Sawmill sawdust stuck in your lungs/And your head can’t hear the thunder,” he sings, transporting us to this one-horse town that sucks its people in. Holcombe has always been a classic troubadour, a little rough around the edges, no frills and as authentic as it gets.

Apr 13: House Concert: RJ Cowdery (Columbus, OH)

Posted on 22 March 2018 (0)

RJ Cowdery has solidified her place in the world of performing singer-songwriters, garnering accolades at Mountain Stage NewSong, Kerrville, Falcon Ridge, Wildflower! Arts and Music, Rocky Mountain Folk Festival, and Sisters Folk Festival. She plays a clean guitar, flat picking or strumming, stringing chords together to develop melodies built like a proverbial brick house and pours over it all with a voice like butter. Her lyrics are sincere and plain-spoken, inviting you to lean in hard and come out the other side changed.  https://www.rjcowdery.com/
