Bottlebrush Gallery summer art classes for children and youth are taught by our practicing artists and experienced teachers.

This year, we are offering beginning printmaking, machine felting, cupcake decorating, alpaca painting, pottery class for beginners and more.  Check back with us as new classes will be added.  Looking forward to having your young artist in class!

To reserve a seat in our art classes:  Call us at the Gallery during business hours (11am-4pm), 724-452-0539.  A Gallery representative will confirm/complete registration and process payment, which is required at the time of registration.  Parents also must complete a consent form for their child upon registration or at the class meeting time.

Please note our classes are open to children/youth from 8 to 18.  If your artist is older than 18, s/he should enroll in adult classes.

All materials included in registration fee unless  stated otherwise in the description.  Art is messy,  so “dress for mess” and “dress for fun”!

Private and group drawing lessons are available by appointment. Please contact the Gallery for more information and to schedule your child’s session.

Printmaking Class – Introduction
Introductory level class in printmaking led by artist-teacher MJ McCurdy. We will cover the principles of printmaking using safe foam printing plates, brayers, styluses, paints and inks. If you would like your child to make a print of themselves, family or pet, please send a photo to the Gallery prior to the class. The photo should be simple, one subject only. Email the photo to us in advance at:  bottlebrushgallery @ yahoo.com   If no photo is available, designs will be provided. Ages 6+.  $35. July 26, 9-10:30am.

Alpaca Painting

“George” is one of several real alpacas living in Harmony and the inspiration for this intermediate level acrylic painting class. You will paint your own alpaca, working from this example. Your alpacas should all look different.  Ages 8+.  $40. August 8, 1-3:00pm.

Abstract Art

Introduction to abstract art and how to create your own cubist-style pictures using oil pastels. Heart-Felt: Machine Felting Art

Make some fiber art using fleece from a local farm! You’ll lay out your own original design with your choice of colors for hearts, flowers, leaves and other embellishments.  Once your design is laid out, it goes through through a felting machine to bind the layers.  All experience levels.  Ages 8+  $35  Wednesday, August 2, 9-10:30am.

About your Instructor: An accomplished fiber artist, Terri Stramba is the owner of a fiber mill and farm where the yarns she uses are grown, spun and sold.

Creating in Clay:  Pottery Class
Introductory to intermediate level class in pottery led by artist-teacher Brenda Grus. Students will make personalized pottery bowls or plates using slump molds and texture tools  then choose colors for their glazing. Introductory level.Ages 8+. $45  Please note: this class meets TWO DAYS:  August 3 and August 17, 10am-12pm: one session for molding, then their work will be fired, and another session for glazing.About your Instructor: Brenda Grus is a ceramics artist from Freedom, PA.

 Cupcake Palooza!
Decorate your own cupcakes with help from our friends at Tin Man Sweets. You will get 6 cupcakes with pre-filled bags of icing. You’ll learn how to “pipe” the frosting onto cupcakes and add sprinkles, making some fun designs just like the bakery! You  can take home your masterpieces, if the cupcakes aren’t all eaten first! Parents, please let us know if your child has food allergies. All experience levels.  Ages 6+.  $30  Thursday, August 3, 1-3pm.

About your Instructor: Tin Man Sweets was started by Justin through a love of baking Christmas cookies with his Grandma as a child. Maria and Justin are both self-taught and neither one ever worked in a bakery. People often ask where the Tin Man name came from. When creating the business, Justin’s young niece couldn’t say Uncle Justin, so she called him Uncle Tin. We look forward to sharing our love of decorating with you!

NEW! Get That Shot: Photography Primer
Learn how to take better photos!  Professional photographer Teri Getsay will lead students through the basics of photography including selecting your subject, arrangement and composition of your photo, and final shots.
This is a TWO DAY class: August 15 from 4-5:30pm and August 17 4-5pm.  Day 1 will be an overview of photography basics and photographic exploration of Harmony. Day 2, students will share photos they have taken with their classmates and critique. Students can use their phone camera or a standard camera for this class. Ages 8+. $30.
