July 11: House Concert – The Carpenter Ants Return!

Posted on 23 June 2014 (0)

carpenterantssmallFriday, July 11th, 2014, 7:00pm  BYOB  $15 Admission Limited Seating in Small Venue – RSVP Required

Be prepared to dance, move, sing and laugh. The Carpenter Ants have been around – with virtually the same lineup – for 25 years. The Ants have defied the odds and outlasted most of their peers for a number of reasons. First and foremost, after more than 2,000 performances, regardless of the occasion, the band never fails to have a good time – and that feeling is contagious.

The group’s trademark country-soul sound – rich, soulful harmonies, stinging solos and a rock-solid rhythm section – captures that rare, loose-but-tight feel, and has won the band international as well as regional fans.

WV’s premier rhythm & blues group, the Ants – guitarist Michael Lipton, drummer Jupiter Little, bassist Ted Harrison and vocalist/saxophonist Charlie Tee – have quietly amassed a resume that rivals many national groups. The group’s trademark country-soul sound – rich, soulful harmonies, stinging solos and a rock-solid rhythm section – captures that rare, loose-but-tight feel, and has won the band international as well as regional fans. The Ants have twice traveled to Moscow. The trips found the group performing at a variety of venues including the 3,500-seat Russia Concert Hall, the city’s most prestigious room, a Letterman-style TV show with a national audience of 100 million (!!), funky clubs and gaudy casinos. In the U.S., they’ve played all manners of venues – from church services and rallies for presidential candidates (Bill Clinton and John Kerry) to a biker festival and a nudist camp.

May 3: Paw-Casso Painting at the Gallery – Paws for a Cause

Posted on 02 May 2014 (0)

In support of Eye Kandy’s Fashion Fur the Paws fundraising event, the Bottlebrush Gallery hosted pawprint painting sessions.  Numerous canine visitors braved the thunderstorm, more or less happy with the painting process, but we all had fun.  🙂 Check out the dogs and their masterpieces!  Congratulations to Kandy Barkley on a successful event, raising $4000 to help  homeless dogs and cats.

Feb 21: House Concert with Heather Kropf and Brad Yoder

With a warm and inviting vocal tone, Heather Kropf has become a fixture on the Pittsburgh live music circuit, honing her craft along the way. She has quietly charmed audiences with her lush, literate blend of jazz-influenced pop, and has turned the heads of music critics, fellow songwriters, and Pittsburgh’s AAA radio station, 91.3 FM WYEP, with her three self-produced albums. WYEP celebrated her second album “What Else is L…ove” as one of the top Pittsburgh releases of 2006 and her debut album “Sky” as a runner up to the top 50 of the year in 2000.

Brad Yoder believes musical success should be measured in more than just the obvious ways. Being voted in the top three slots multiple times since 2002 for “Best Acoustic/Solo Artist” by Pittsburgh City Paper readers is great; playing Poughkeepsie, New York, and having a college freshman from Los Angeles request songs she’s only heard via Internet downloads is actually cooler. Just as tangible in terms of success are the pieces of original art on Brad’s walls created by supporters and inspired by specific songs, and the many “gig guest books” full of appreciative comments from 10+ years of live shows. Come out and share the evening,

Friday 21 February 2014 7:00 PM. All ages $10.00, BYOB for adults, bring a snack to share.

Eric Taylor learned intricate blues guitar stylings from music legends Lightnin’ Hopkins, Mance Lipscomb and Mississippi Fred McDowell. He developed his own unique guitar picking style that would be imitated by many of his contemporaries from the early Houston days such as Guy Clark, Townes Van Zandt, Robert Earl Keen, Lyle Lovett, Steve Earle, and Nanci Griffith.

Taylor has headlined the prestigious Newport Folk Festival, played National Public Radio’s “Mountain Stage” and has appeared on both “Late Night With David Letterman” and “Austin City Limits”.  www.bluerubymusic.com

“Eric Taylor is a sage musician, a lyrical genius and a master of the guitar.”

Summer Art Class Week, July 8-12. Registration open!

Posted on 13 June 2013 (0)

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWe are proud to announce registration is open for Summer Art Class Week, July 8-12.  This year we’re offering classes in subjects including:  Improv/Acting, an Asian Dragon Mural, Photography, Hoodat Dolls, Felt Fiber Sculpture, and Chain Maille Bracelets. We’ll end the Summer Art Class Week with an art show/exhibit on Friday, July 12, to show off your child’s work. For detailed information, click on the kids/teens classes link at the top of the page.

Registration fees include all materials, refreshments, and the cost of the Friday art show. Please note our registration deadlines are by 12pm the day before the class is scheduled to be held. If a class does not meet the minimum registration number, you will be notified of the cancellation at that time.

After paying the artists and for supplies, the remainder of the registration fee is going towards our mini-grant program ART MATTERS to fund art classes for economically-disadvantaged kids. We get requests regularly from local groups and organizations asking for classes to help their clients, so we decided to do something about it. Not only are you helping your own children by giving them art lessons, but you are also helping others who cannot afford them. Thank you!

We are planning a second set of classes the week of July 29 to include clay sculpture, drawing, painting, and collage, so please check back for updates.

In response to requests, we’re offering private drawing lessons every Monday this summer. The classes are $15 a session. Please contact us to schedule a time for your child to meet with us.
