A few photos from Harmony’s Annual German New Year’s Celebration, known as Silvester. Thousands of people converge on the small town of Harmony to enjoy this family friendly event with music, food, facepainting, arts and craft demonstrations, a 5k race and fun run, and much more. The day concludes at 6pm (midnight German time) with a ball drop and countdown and fireworks. It is an amazing experience.

The Creative’s Way Workshop

When:  Mondays, January 25 through February 29, choose your time: 1-2:30pm OR 7-8:30pm

Cost and Registration:

Workshop fee is $120, due at first session January 25^th.  Additional $25 fee for one play date and supplies TBD. Register: call or email Sandy to sign up with a $20 deposit: 724-766-0674 or callsandy222@gmail.com. Minimum of 5 participants. Group size is limited to 8.

Description:

Participants will “out” the creativity inside of them to fulfill a lifetime passion or perhaps, find a new one.  Join this Creative Circle of peer support to discover or recover your creative life and– in a gallery and center for arts filled with inspiration! Using Julia Cameron’s book as a guide and Sandy’s facilitated process, you will complete tasks in 12 chapters to break through the surface of your resistance in order to experience art and creating in its many forms. A commitment to consciously regard others in the group with respect and without fear of criticism, judgment or competition is expected from all participants.

Sandy’s experience with Ms. Cameron’s course and added informational hand-outs will get you “flowing” in creative and inspirational ideas to express yourself. A personal commitment to complete this six-week workshop will most likely change your outlook on self-expression, and life, if practiced with a sincere desire to confront your inner censors. The spiritual aspect is not referring to religion but the enlightenment one finds flowing through creative energy. An outline of weekly sessions available upon request.

The Artist’s Way: A Spiritual Path to Higher Creativity by Julia Cameron, A Course in Discovering and Recovering Your Creative Self (purchase on-line or Barnes & Nobles approx. $12.00 for paperback edition ISBN#0-87477-694-5 or 9781101156889) This is not the “workbook” which is a companion to The Artist’s Way.  ALSO: Two spiral composition notebooks required before 1^st session but at least one will be used immediately.

About Your Workshop Leader:

Sandy Ferrainola is an essayist, novelist and above all, CREATIVE!  Her writing experience spans 50 years with published essays in literary journals, articles in magazines, and horoscope columns in addition to artistic endeavors in photography with a photo poster on display at the Bottlebrush Gallery.  Even with a dozen rejection slips from book publishers for her young adult novel series, Sandy understands there may be dozens more!

As a member of the international Stencil Artisan’s League for 19 years as well as a Board member, Sandy gained insight into group learning and class instruction across America. Her interest in a variety of arts and handcrafts including oil and acrylic painting, collage, decorative arts, fabric arts, ceramics, drawing as well as perennial gardening and “upcycling junk” has led to new discoveries in creativity.  An advocate of Julia Cameron’s many book titles, she anticipates Julia’s upcoming release in April, It’s Never Too Late to Begin Again: Creativity in the Golden Years. Sandy’s favorites: in art, Andy Warhol; in music; David Bowie; in movies; Elf; in colors,  turquoise!  Currently studying Psychology at Butler County Community College, Sandy serves on several local community committees and holds a Pennsylvania license in real estate.

Another successful German Christmas Market in Harmony. Beautiful weather! Harmony’s annual fall festival is Saturday, October 10. Music, games  and activities for kids young and old, vendors and artist demos, costume contests, parades, a grandfather-granddaughter art show by Pete Zogran and Sarah Huth, a craft brew release by the Harmony Inn… and much more.  Click on the photo to see the entire schedule for Harmony. Park your car and take the free shuttle sponsored by our kind friends at Passavant to travel easily between the towns of Harmony and Zelienople to enjoy two fall festivals in progress the same weekend!

Our second week of summer classes is posted. We have new classes and a repeat of the popular Fossil Class for kids who missed it the first time. Click on the child/teen link at the top of this page.  Last day to register is Friday, July 31. Class size is limited, so don’t wait!

Friday, February 13, 2015, 6:00-9:00pm. “Have A Heart for Animals”. Our 4^th Annual fundraiser to benefit the Butler Count Humane Society!

No charge for admission… we only ask that you bring food, toys or supplies donations for the animals. The Humane Society’s donation “wish list” can be seen here: http://butlercountyhs.org/wish_list.html  One easy item to bring that is incredibly useful:  Fold Top Sandwich Bags! Those plain little sandwich bags, not the Ziploc types. The shelter really needs these!
Tax-deductible cash donations also gratefully accepted.  Last year we raised $1500 in 3 hours along with two truckloads of supplies… thank you for your generosity.

Time for Me: A Women’s Creative Circle

Meets regularly on the last Thursday of each month, 7-9pm unless otherwise noted.Facilitator: MJ McCurdy, Owner. Bottlebrush Gallery & Center for the Arts.  Your $25 fee includes all materials and a take-home piece of art.

Location:  Bottlebrush Gallery and Center for the Arts in Harmony, PA.

Description: As women, we all seem to make time for everyone else in our lives– but when is OUR time? Time For Me is a way to set aside time for ourselves, to meet new friends and express our inner creativity. At each class, we explore various creative forms, learning a different artistic technique each time, then using that technique to express our inner selves. You do not have to be artistically gifted to join us.

This is an on-going class that usually meets the last Thursday of the month. You can attend one class, two classes, or every class if you would like. Each class you attend is $25 and includes all materials needed for the evening. Bring beverages for yourself and snacks for others, if you would like to share.

Women from 13 to 100 are welcome! Private group classes available too– birthdays, bridal showers, bachelorette parties, or just a fun get-together for a Ladies Night Out.

Fall Class Dates: Sept 25, Oct 30, Nov 20, December-no classes.

Bring the kids! Pet our sheep! Harmony’s annual Herb & Garden Fair is Saturday 6/14, 9am-3pm. In addition to the plant exchange/sale activities at the 1805 Barn, the town is keeping the party going with two FREE afternoon concerts by Todd Burge, food, garden art, plenty of kids activities, and more. Artists showing and demonstrating for this event:  Judy Dickson, Jill Eudaly, Susan Walker, and Cathy Wright. Happy New Year’s from Harmony, PA. Photos from our annual “Silvester” event, which is the German town’s celebration of New Year’s Eve.  Face Painting by Christina for big and little kids alike, a 5k and Fun Run, traditional food and drinks, treats for pets by Christine Galket, German countdown and ball drop at 6pm (midnight in Germany!), singing of Auld Lang Syne, and fireworks. All of the shops in town are open, including the Gallery– and we all have our heat on, so come in and keep warm. And when it’s all done, you’ll be home in time to celebrate New Year’s — again. 🙂  A blessed and joyous 2014 to everyone from Bottlebrush Gallery.
