From a previous show by The Early Mays: “WOW… What an evening… To say that I am truly impressed with The Early Mays would be such an understatement … The musical talents of these women leaves me awestruck! Please join us for this special exhibition featuring student artwork, a collaboration between the Stone House Center for Public Humanities and the Slippery Rock University Art Society in conjunction with National Arts and Humanities Month.

National Arts and Humanities Month (NAHM) is a coast-to-coast collective celebration of culture in America. Each year since 1993, NAHM has helped give millions of Americans the opportunity to explore new facets of the arts and humanities in their lives and has encouraged them to begin a lifelong habit of active participation.

The SRUAS is a professional development group for emerging artists attending Slippery Rock University. We focus on giving our artists information and opportunities to grow and develop as young artists. This exhibition collectively showcases the different talents our artists possess, across a multi-medium spectrum.

Refreshments will be served.  No admission fee. We hope to see you!

sugar skull pic 5 sugar skull pic 3As part of Harmony’s fall festival Sleepy Hollow, we are proud to present Pittsburgh artist Laura Stuart and her latest work entitled Sugar Skulls N Spice: A Colorful Exploration of the Human Cranium (With a Dash of Ominous Spice!)

Laura’s show will be on display from 11am til close on Saturday, October 8 with the show reception from 3pm-6pm,  live music and refreshments. . If you can’t be in Harmony that day, Laura’s show will be on display until October 23rd. Stop in and see her fabulous work during Gallery hours.

To encourage creativity and fun, a table will be set up with coloring sheets with crayons and markers for anyone to make their own sugar skull art.

Show Description:
When we think of skulls we often think of death and mortality. Within American culture, the artistic evolution of the skull has often represented scary concepts and rebellious ideas. The skull can be both fascinating and gruesome. However, in recent years, the sugar skull has gained in popularity within American culture as an attractive symbol that in some ways has counteracted the skull’s traditionally ghoulish nature.

About Laura Stuart:
Laura Stuart is a mixed media artist originally from Volant, PA. She currently lives in Pittsburgh, where she works as a Team Leader for Blind & Vision Rehabilitation Services. Laura studied Visual Communications at both The Art Institute of Pittsburgh and Westminster College where she received a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts Communications. She later went to Carlow University for an Art Education certification. Laura has taught art for a number of years within the school setting and within a variety therapeutic environments.

Larry has recorded twenty-four albums. “Live Forever”, recorded with his wife Sandra on viola and produced by Don Dixon (REM, The Red Clay Ramblers, James McMurtry), was released in 2016, Larry’s top ten novelty single “Junk Food Junkie” was Dr. Demento’s Song of the Year in 1976 and one his children’s recordings for Walt Disney records was Grammy nominated for “Children’s Record of the Year”.

The Ants trademark country-soul sound – rich, soulful harmonies, stinging solos and a rock-solid rhythm section – captures that rare, loose-but-tight feel, and has won the band international as well as regional fans. http://www.carpenterants.net/

Rod Picot says, “Went to the Mountain Stage post show hang at The Empty Glass and listened to The Carpenter Ants…best gospel/bar band you’ve ever heard and yes, Gospel/Bar Band should be a Grammy category…”

Aug 12: House Concert with Tom Mason. There’s a Pirate in the house!

Posted on 01 August 2016 (0)

tom mason
Tom Mason is an amazing musician, song-writer, and actor. Growing up in the Twin Cities Mason found an early love for music and theater. Watching his brothers and grandfather play guitar lit the flame early for Mason. He received a banjo at age seven, but by age eleven he was playing guitar in open tunings with a wine bottle neck. He practiced everyday and decided early in life that he wanted to be a performer.

At this time the acting bug bit Mason and he started taking acting classes. He has continued to act in plays throughout the country. Vaudeville and old Marx Brothers movies made a huge impression on Mason and he has continued to play the crafts and antics of these performers in his own shows and music.

June 15: Community Drum Circle 7-9pm, #orlandostrong

Posted on 15 June 2016 (0)

announcement bb smEvery month, Bottlebrush: A Gallery for the Arts hosts a drum circle led by Annie Mathe and Pat Bauer. The purpose of a drum circle is many-fold, but mainly for people to come together and raise energy and conciousness… to find peace and enjoy a safe place, together. If you haven’t participated in a drum circle, you must. It’s an incredibly moving, peaceful experience.

In light of the horrific events in Orlando, we’ve decided to dedicate this month’s circle to the shooting victims and their families.

Please join us for a free, open community drum at our Gallery Wednesday evening, June 15, from 7-9pm. Drums and other percussion instruments will be provided.  This is a time for us to stand together and support each other. Please come and be a part of this circle of love.

RSVP appreciated, walk-ins welcome. Snacks and beverages served.
