Pittsburgh artists Kim Friethaler, June Kielty, Nadya Lapets and Vickie Schilling opening night this Friday, October 18, from 7-9pm, at the Bottlebrush. No admission charge. Refreshments will be served. Live music by singer-songwriter Sally Zehmisch of Cranberry Township. The artist group brought in their work for their show, and it is breathtaking. A Female Perpective will be on display from Friday, October 18 through Thursday, October 31.

Mixed Media Technique Class Series:  Sundays:  September 22, October 27, November 24, from 2-3:30pm. Ages 10 and up. $25 includes all materials and snacks. In this workshop held on the 4th Sunday of the month will learn a different mixed media technique. These techniques can then be applied to your own projects such as on furniture, panels,ATC cards and in journals to name a few. Possibilities are endless.

Give Thanks: Mixed Media piece. Sunday, October 6, 2-4pm. Ages 14 and up. $40 includes all materials and snacks. In this one time class create a finished 6″ x 6″ mixed media piece on a basswood panel. We will work with paint.paper. stamping and some of your own hand work. You may choose to include the words “Give Thanks” or just leave the fall pumpkin the focus. This will make a wonderful gift for the Thanksgiving Cook- yourself included!

Snowman Ornament Gift Holder. Sunday, December 1, 2-4pm. Ages 7 and up. $25 includes all materials. In this one time class we will be creating a  portrait of a snowman on a pocket.This would be a great Parent/Child activity to do together.  It would make a great wall decoration, an ornament and/or filled with a few goodies, a gift card or piece of jewelry to name a few ideas.  

Holiday Mixed Media. Sunday, December 8, 2-4pm. Ages 14 and up. $40 includes all materials. In this one time class create a finished 6″ x 6″ mixed media piece on a basswood panel. We will work with paint.paper. stamping and some of your own hand work to create this one of a kind original. Keep it for yourself or would make a special gift.

Act Up! Children’s Theatre: Ages 9-15.

Saturdays, 1-3:30pm, September 21 through December 21. $10 per session.

A fun and spirited class designed for children and pre-teens that teaches the basics of improvisational acting. Our class meets monthly and will include puppets, warm-up exercises, creative performance with games, and an improv skit using simple costumes and props.

Conga Drumming: Basics and Intermediate  Ages 14 to Adult.

Mondays, 6-7:30pm, September 16-October 21. $90 for 6 weeks includes use of drums. 

Explore the exciting world of Afro-Cuban and Latin Rhythms in a fun and friendly atmosphere. A 6 week, fully interactive class designed for beginners and experienced drummers alike. We will cover: Technique, Clave, Tumbao, Calypso, Rumba, Guaguanco, Abakwa and Practice Methods. $90 for 6 weeks, includes use of drums. Taught by experienced drummer Bryan Fazio. Slippery Rock University Student Art Show Opening Night Reception:  September 13, 7-9pm. Edgy and thought-provoking, always a phenomenal show!

Opening reception and exhibit  features artists Chelsea Burton, Constance Briggs, Maria Camera, Darrellyn Dickey, Chelsea Grubbs and Barbara Westman, Assistant Professor of Fibers and Printmaking.  Refreshments will be served. No admission fee.

“5+1 Fibers Exhibition” will be on display from Sept. 13-Sept. 20, 11am-4pm, with the exception of Monday, Sept. 16, when the Gallery is closed.

The Rowan Cunningham Band

Harmony’s second annual Bluegrass and Beyond Music Festival has arrived! Two days of music starting Friday evening 9/6 at 6:30 (gates open at 5:30) and continuing all day Saturday, 9/7.

R&B musicians Danny Kalb and The Billy Price Band will play Friday night.

Saturday’s line up in order of performance: Tiger Maple String Band, Well Strung, Midnight Rooster, The Allegheny Drifters, Border Ride, Midnight Ride, The Rowan Cunningham Band, and headliners The Honeycutters.  Complete information, schedule of bands, online ticket sales, lodging and more on the festival web page, www.concertsinharmony.com.  The Gallery will be open for the entire festival. The weather forecast is stunning– clear with highs in the 70s. Stop in and see us– support local art and music!

Please come out and share this evening with three young singer-songwriters from Butler, Beaver, and Allegheny Counties. It is our pleasure to open the stage and the venue to such dedicated voices of our present and our future.
